Sunday Stash #288 Cotton + Steel 2015 Picnic and Lucky Strikes

Picnic by Melody Miller
July has arrived and with that the long awaited 2015 Cotton + Steel Collections are starting to arrive in stores. Just like last year the 2015 release is a set of five collections by five designers ~ Rashida Coleman-Hale, Melody Miller, Alexia Abegg, Kim Kight, and Sarah Watts. All five collections stand alone in their own right but also mix remarkably well, and together with a range of Cotton + Steel basics is a complete and comprehensive collection of almost 100 fabrics.

Pictured first is Picnic by Melody Miller which features a whimsical lineup of retro picnic baskets, colorful apples, big painterly roses and vintage enamel flowers; featuring my favorite collection/s first. It's ok to have fabric favorites.

I love this combination of saturated color and medium to large scale prints that are fun feature fabrics suitable for home decor, accessories, clothing and of course quilts.  Oh my goodness, those apples ... and the baskets!

Lucky Strikes is Kim Kight's latest collection. It tells a story of a 70's working class women's bowling league and features bowling pins, strike symbols, score cards, whimsical dots and plaids, and tiny calico florals.

Lucky Strikes - Domino Plaid, Coffee Shop, Strikes, and Clothesline Floral.

As much as I love the large scale prints from Melody Miller's Picnic collection I adore this softer color palette, and like Kim's previous - Cookie Book - collection, this feels more like "me". There are several prints here that I know I will reach for often. The darling calico floral prints have already been cut into, and yardage has been ordered.
