Flowering Snowball Quilt 2

A Finished Quilt (and lots of photos!)
Flowering Snowball Quilt - A Finished Quilt | © Red Pepper Quilts 2016

Today - this last day of November - I am sharing with you the finished Flowering Snowball 2 quilt. November has been exceptionally good to me. I have spent the last few weeks travelling with my husband; a trip to the United States that involved the running of a marathon (my husband!), endlessly wandering the streets of New York City and of course yarn and fabric shopping at fabulous stores like Purl Soho, The Brooklyn General Store and Knitty City. It was a wonderful trip but as always there is no place quite like home and although it has taken a week or so for the jet lag to wear off, I have basted, quilted, and attached the binding to this quilt in between fighting off sleep and the temptation to nap at random times of the day.

I have loved making this quilt! From choosing fabrics - especially working with low volume fabrics - to piecing the small Flowering Snowball blocks, even though I initially feared that I would not be able to neatly and consistently sew these tightly curved blocks. And truly, once you have made a handful of these blocks you soon find your sewing rhythm and with confidence sew all 80 of the required blocks!

The quilt was finished with my usual backing fabric and binding treatment: backing fabric is Newsprint from the Story collection by Carrie Bloomston and binding fabric is a narrow black/white stripe by Timeless Treasures (available at Fabric Bubb at the moment). Quilted with straight - edge to edge - horizontal and vertical lines spaced 1 inch apart using Aurifil 40wt thread.

Sunday Stash #361 Hop Skip Jump by American Jane Patterns

Hop Skip Jump by Sandy Klop for Moda Fabrics | © Red Pepper Quilts 2016
Hop Skip Jump by Sandy Klop
 of American Jane Patterns
for Moda Fabrics

I love this new collection by American Jane (Sandy Klop)! Hop Skip Jump is a collection of reproduction prints in classic primary colors with all the charm of a bygone era ... and a hop, skip, and a jump. I had trouble choosing a favorite print for there are quite a few designs that I am partial to.

The collections consists of 39 prints plus a panel - 8 unique designs in up to 8 colorways. There are multiple floral prints, as well as checks, checks with and without dots, as well as daisies, daisies that look like dots, and even pindots. All are excellent small scale designs that are perfect stash builders and so easy to use in your sewing projects.

The Quilter's Planner 2017 by Stephanie Palmer and a Giveaway!

Click on any image for a larger view.
The Quilter’s Planner by Stephanie Palmer is the first of its kind, designed specifically for busy, creative quilters who have many life responsibilities. It contains everything you need to organize the work, personal and quilting parts of your life. This project represents a collaboration of members of our quilting community. More than 35 quilting bloggers generously submitted their blocks for inclusion, and 14 renowned designers contributed patterns  to make this planner a truly inspirational tool for all quilters.

The calendar year is clearly divided and separated into months with a sturdy laminated tab.The monthly calendar is simple and uncluttered, allowing you the space you need to plan your life and offers a quick monthly overview. The weekly two-page calendar has plenty of space to write your daily appointments. The left hand margin has instructions for an original quilt block design developed by fantastic bloggers in our quilting community. The bottom of the page has separate areas for writing your work, personal and quilting to do lists, and an area for notes.

There is a whole section of the book dedicated to helping you get and stay organized with your quilts in progress. The Project Planning Page has sections to keep notes about what materials you have for that project, what you need, and the steps you need to take to finish. You can even attach fabric swatches at the bottom and a picture or sketch of your project at the top!

Included also are 14 beautiful full quilt and sewing patterns, with color instructions by way of a supplemental e-book. Included in the e-book is my own Half Square Triangle Variation Quilt Pattern. When Stephanie emailed me to see if I was interested in contributing a pattern I jumped at the opportunity, for not only do I like to support other quilters in our community but I already had been using the 2016 edition of Stephanie's Quilter's Planner, and continue to use it every single day to plan and organise not just my quilting projects but all other aspects of my business and personal  life.

The projects are beautifully photographed by Kitty Wilkin of Night Quilter. Take a peek below of all 14 quilt patterns that form part of the Planner (two are included in the hard copy Planner, 12 patterns are available as a digital e-book). I don't know about you but I think that makes this Planner unique and represent excellent value for money. It would also make the perfect gift for your quilting friends or be sure to add it to your wish list this Christmas.

The Quilter's Planner is available to from Stephanie's online store: The Quilter's Planner.

To receive planners by Christmas or Hanukkah, orders need to be placed by December 10th.  To receive orders by the New Year, orders need to be placed by December 20th.

Sunday Stash #360 Aunt Grace by Judie Rothermel

Aunt Grace by Judie Rothermel | © Red Pepper Quilts 2016
Aunt Grace by Judie Rothermel
for Marcus Brothers Fabrics

There's no denying that I love reproduction fabrics and they do represent a considerable portion of my fabric stash. I love incorporating these into my quilts together with modern and contemporary fabrics.

Aunt Grace by Judie Rothermel | © Red Pepper Quilts 2016
Aunt Grace by Judie Rothermel | © Red Pepper Quilts 2016

This most recent Aunt Grace collection is exactly that; a collection of classic 30's small scale  prints reproduced in colors associated with the 1930's pre-depression era; purple, pink, yellow, green, blue, red. The cherries are so good (pictured above).

Aunt Grace by Judie Rothermel | © Red Pepper Quilts 2016

These small scale designs are great for introducing reproduction fabrics into modern projects. I use these fabrics as if they were stash basics (dots, checks, stripes etc), mixing modern and reproduction fabrics by color palette rather than by their designated era.
