Work in Progress - A Baby Boy Quilt

And a Custom Order.
Baby Blues - Custom Order Quilt | Red Pepper Quilts

A baby quilt for a yet to be born baby boy.
Modern, bright, fresh
featuring blues in clean, simple prints.

Baby Blues - Custom Order Quilt | Red Pepper Quilts

So simple! All squares and a mix of blue, black, grey and white prints. Pulling together a combination of fabrics like is my favorite part of the fabric-play process, but I do think that I make it look just a little easier than what it really is. I've had a lot of practise at this. It helps to start with a clear vision of how you want the quilt to look, and also to have on hand a variety of fabrics to audition.

I was surprised by how few navy fabrics I have in my stash (and noticed that the navy fabrics that I do have on hand have in fact not previously been cut into - it is not I color that I use often!). Aqua, light blue, and grey fabrics on the other hand were aplenty.

154 squares each measuring 4 inches x 4 inches (excluding seam allowances).
Quilt top measures 44 inches x 56 inches.
40+ different printed fabrics.

  1. My goodness, what a lovely collection of blues! Combining all those colors of blue really works! I have been hesitant to combine aqua with baby and navy blues. Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. I always seem to find your quilts mesmerizing. I love the blend of color, print, and texture you achieve. And you do make it look like it's easy and flawless, although if you don't mind me saying, looking back I can see a progression to who you have become. Now tha I try it myself, I can see that it is indeed hard. Although I do try to channel your eye, I also, of course, want to get my point of view and individuality in there. And it is by no means effortless, but your quilts help keep me motivated! I think I'm going to jump in and try to do the economy block quilt with your tutorial. It's one of my favorite quilts and I think I'm up to it now! Again, thanks for your direction and inspiration! Magistra13@yahoo.com

  16. Very cute baby quilt! And now that you've cut into your navy prints, I bet you'll be using more of them since navy combines so well with other colors: greens, yellows, pinks, all pastels.... I see lots more possibilities for you!

  21. Your comment about how difficult to combine fabrics matches my experience. Making nice looking scrap quilts is much harder than it looks. I've find I must have a large stash of coordinating fabrics and audition each fabric. I think the variety of beautiful fabric collections available has trained me to wants a very professional look. Thank you for sharing your beautiful quilts and helpful comments.
