Quilting

Today is a quilting day - until I head off for work (the hourly rate of pay type of work, yep I do work!).

I am starting to feel a little more settled with the Bernina 820 and can now function it in the most basic of ways.   One of the features that I am really loving is the bobbin warning.  A warning light starts flashing when the bobbin is down to its last 20% of capacity, and slowly decreases.

This warning ensures I won't be running out of bobbin thread in the middle of a quilting an edge to edge straight line, thereby limiting time with the seam ripper.

Enjoy your weekend - by the way it is a huge weekend in Melbourne - the AFL Grand Final!  Football isn't really my thing, but if it is yours, I hope your team wins.

  3. Oh, I just love this line of fabric, and you have used it just right, in my humble opinion, mixing it with lots of fresh, clean white !

    Beautiful !

  4. My new machine will do that too. Of course, I try and push it. just. a. little. bit. further. on each bobbin. Sometimes it works to my advantage, sometimes not.

  6. I like that your Bernina shows you how much you have left. I have a little Brother that just stops (with a little still left on the bobbin) and absolutely will not sew anymore until you change the bobbin. Pretty frustrating when you've only got 3 inches left to go!

  7. Dream on just gets better the more I sew with it, and see beautiful creations like yours. Love the simple patchwork!

  8. I would love a bobbin low warning on my quilting machine - there is nothing worse than unpicking.

  9. I would LOVE a bobbin warning function instead of having to constantly check! Loving the Dream On fabric... I need some!

I'm not into footy but my middle sister is... she's been pretty quiet about it since her team's not in the Grand Final. Thank God lol

  10. Nothing worse than sewing an entire line and seeing you ran iout 2 secs from the beginning. It's wastes cotton on the top, too! Yay for that function...maybe my next upgrade haha

  11. That is such a great feature for a machine! I'm in Melbourne too and had to work today in the city!! So glad I finished work before the grand final finished or there would be NO room on this train!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

  15. What a great feature - my older pfaff has a light that goes on when I am nearing the end - but I am not sure how close to the end exactly. It helps though. And you really have an hourly job? I was somehow thinking quilting was your work - you do so many beautiful things - I really feel like an underachiever now....:)

  16. Love that bobbin reminder too! Have you used the first stitch in the quilting menu that does 6 small stitches at the beginning and end to secure your straight lines? I love that! I just keep learning new things about my wonderful machine. Do you always use such a long stitch length for your quilting? I was surprised at the 3.6.

  18. That is a beautiful quilt. I didn't know the new Bernina's had that bobbin warning. Awesome!! About time someone came up with it. Now if they could just figure out how to make our machines fill the bobbins on their own when they run out....all while we keep sewing!!

  19. oooh, handy tool! I just had the bobbin run out problem yesterday. I hate not using up every bit of bobbin thread!

  20. Looks like you're getting well acquainted with your new Bernina. I love the cheery colors of this quilt. It will be fun to see what you use for the binding.

  21. Glad you're enjoying your machine! I am starting to get to know mine better too. Might chat again over at our 820 group again? Glad you got the treading sorted. (Minette)

  22. I worry about the electronics of a new machine. I kind of don't like my machine talking to me so much. I need to upgrade, but am squeamish toward non-dials. What do you think about all those bells and lcd whistles?
