Lots of new fabrics have been added to my stash in the last few weeks, in particular quite a number of fabrics by my favorite Japanese textile designer Suzuko Koseki. These I cannot resist! Several are smaller scale re-prints of previously released designs including:

Sunday Stash #271 Japanese Fabrics by Suzuko Koseki and More

Fabrics by popular Japanese textile designer Suzuko Koseki | Red Pepper Quilts

Several wonderful stash basic prints - small scale prints like dots, florals, stripes - have been added to stash over the last few weeks, most have been designed by popular Japanese textile designer Suzuko Koseki. These I cannot resists for they are easy to use, mixing well with fabrics from other collections by color or style.

At the same time these tiny flower drops also arrived, small scale prints this time by Atsuko Matsuyama, in soft pastel color. As well as Mini Marguerite Daisy again by Suzuko Koseki, which is a smaller scale reprint of Suzuko's original Daisy fabric - a mini version of the same design - and a fabric that I have used often, in great saturated colors.

This week's stash addition is a bundle of recently released fabrics by Suzuko Koseki and Yoko Okamoto; both are popular Japanese textile designers.

100% quilting cotton
As you may already know I am a big fan of Suzuko Koseki's designs and I absolutely could not resist this cute new print featuring fashion items; clothing and accessories ~ ideal for fussy cutting, and includes a great low volume colorway which I may have purchased a little extra of. Just in case.

In addition, these two designs, Circles and Colorful Square Patchwork ~ which are smaller scale prints of previously released fabrics by Suzuko ~ both made their way into my stash. The diameter of the circle is just under 1 1/2 inches and the squares are approximately 2 inches x 2 inches; quite a bit smaller than the original designs.

Sunday Stash #405 A Little Sweetness and More!

For this week's Sunday Stash I have again chosen several fabrics that have recently been added to stash. I have I lot of fabric and I like to think that I can choose wisely and sensibly; that I know "my style", and purchase fabrics that I will actually use ... and I usually get it right. Well, most of the time anyway, but it is hard not to wish for all the fabrics!

The first five prints are all from Tasha Noel's most recent collection A Little Sweetness for Riley Blake Fabrics. These are sweet!! And it was hard not to purchase the whole collection, but I know I will actually use these prints. Needless to say the hand drawn dress fabrics are particularly adorable (perfect for fussy cutting!) but I think the small scale floral designs are excellent background/sashing fabrics. As always I love that Tasha's designs are printed on a clear/clean white background fabric.

Also added to stash are these beautiful Yuwa fabrics by Japanese textile designer Suzuko Koseki. I am a huge fan of Suzuko Koseki designs and could not resist large scale floral designs with a snippet of text fabric, as well as the button stripe prints.

Sunday Stash #301 Japanese Fabrics & Suzuko Koseki

Lots of new fabrics have been added to my stash in the last few weeks, in particular quite a number of Japanese fabrics including those by my favorite Japanese textile designer Suzuko Koseki. These I cannot resist!
Patchwork Print by Suzuko Koseki for Yuwa Fabrics
Patchwork Scrap by Suzuko Koseki for Yuwa Fabrics

I love both the colorful cheater patchwork and scrap designs by Suzuko Koseki for they work great as a fabric panel but also present wonderful opportunities for fussy cutting. Pictured directly above for scale and all the detail is what a fat quarter looks like. Fabrics by Koseki tend to be sought after and go quickly. I am not surprised! I have already cut into several of these pieces.

Sunday Stash #422 Assorted Fabrics from Tokyo Quilt Festival

Assorted Fabrics from Tokyo Quilt Festival | © Red Pepper Quilts 2018

It was inevitable that I would be returning home from the Tokyo Quilt Festival with a small suitcase of fabric. With some 200+ vendor stalls there was plenty to choose from and there was something for everyone! Vendors included the big name sewing machine retailers as well as retail booths from Clover Products (notions), Tulip-Japan, Cohana Handmade Tools, bag making accessories, vintage quilts, and many many booths jam packed with fabric (including a booth by Cotton + Steel, Tilda-Japan, Moda Fabrics and Yuwa Fabrics). All kinds of fabric, ranging from vintage and feedsack fabric to traditional Japanese, Liberty of London, and modern quilting cottons.

Liberty of London | Tokyo Quilt Festival | © Red Pepper Quilts 2018

I had not expected to see so many vendors selling original feedsack fabric and I was fascinated by them! The feedsack booths were a popular attraction and were surrounded (mobbed) by keen shoppers. The fabric pieces - often as small as a 10" squares - all looked in pristine condition, were individually packaged, and were not cheap. I did not purchase any feedsack fabric ... it felt like a slippery slope to start with purchasing even one or two small pieces ... but they were beautiful.

Another popular booth was the La Clochette booth which carries many of Suzuko Koseki's books and fabrics, and it was most exciting to meet this popular Japanese designer in person! The latest book and fabric releases were available from the booth and I was happy to stock up on these (see above)!

Another booth that I was pleased to stumble upon in the last hour of my second day at the festival was a vendor with all fabrics by Atsuko Matsuyama. I adore these sweet small scale fabrics by this Japanese designer and stocked up on some of the older prints from the 30's Collection by Atsuko Matsuyama as well as some of the more recently released prints.

The remainder of my fabric purchases were from a range of vendors, and include prints by Sevenberry, Quilt Gate, and Yuwa Fabrics. Having travelled from afar, I chose not to purchase fabrics that I would otherwise be able find online - like Liberty of London. I also had my eye on a beautiful Hexagon Vintage Quilt in excellent condition, which was going to have quite an impact on my cash purchases. I spotted it on my first day at the festival but decided that I needed more time to think about this purchase. When I returned to the festival on my second day, the quilt was gone. It wasn't meant to be and I think I was pleased that the decision had been made for me. I may just have to make a similar quilt myself.

NOTES ....
  • Eftpos and Credit card facilities are not available at the festival (and lots of other places!). All transactions are CASH only - and that goes for on-site food/drink purchases also. Bring cash!
  • It makes sense that at such a busy show the fabric selection available for purchase is limited to pre-cut pieces rather than custom cut yardage. Sizes vary from small (fat eighths) to larger 1 meter pre-cut pieces. Traditional fat eighth and fat quarter cuts are based on cm rather than inches.
  • Bring a small backpack to carry your purchases - this makes navigating the crowds much easier, frees up your hands to take photos ... and browse through the many displays of fabric.
  • Bring some coins with you to hire a locker for the day to store your coat. Lockers are available immediately upon entry to the Tokyo Dome, and for about $5/$6 a day you'll be grateful not to have to carry your coat.
