Sienna by Alexia Abegg
for Cotton + Steel

In this latest collection for Cotton + Steel, Alexia Abegg returns to her favorite source of inspiration, the desert. Continuing her exploration of hand printing, Sienna captures the serene feeling of this arid landscape and its flora and fauna. The quality of Alexia's hand carved stamps and block printed designs on unbleached cotton gives the whole collection a beautiful texture and depth.

The collection consists of 16 quilting cottons - shown here - 3 rayons, 2 cotton rayon lawn fabrics, and 2 cotton lawns (not shown here). Lots of substrates to please quilters and garment makers alike.

I really like the warm tone of the unbleached cotton; it gives the whole collection a rustic feel in keeping with the handmade vibe of the whole collection. The medium scale irregular dots (up to 3/4" in diameter) are my favorite print from this collection - especially the dark blue colorway.

  1. I really like that turquoise and the brighter blue colors. I'm seeing some fabric acquisitions in the near future. Thanks for the great close up shots.
