Frankie Quilt
My Frankie Quilt is done and I am so pleased with how it turned out. It has such a fresh and modern feel to it! I have enjoyed working on this project; working with triangles, hexagons, and cutting fabric with templates. As always I immersed myself in the fabric and color play, even to the point of choosing and cutting fabric for more star blocks than was needed (I think my next quilt will need to be a scrap quilt to take care of the endlessly overflowing scrap bin).
The quilt is quilted with edge to edge straight lines; first by ditch stitching the horizontal seams, then by quilting vertical lines just 3/4" apart. The horizontal quilting lines are hidden (in the seam) but serve as a foundation to help stabilize the quilt sandwich. I then added vertical lines at evenly spaced intervals; first 3 inches apart, then added additional lines in between.
No lines were marked for the quilting, instead I used a quilting guide attached to the walking foot to assist with keeping the lines straight (by running the guide along the seam lines and reference points on the pattern/star block).

For the back of the quilt I have used my all time favorite backing fabric ~ Newsprint by Carrie Bloomston from the Story Collection. It really is the perfect backing fabric and the good news is I still have a nice stash of this fabric on hand. It really does complement my quilts so well.
Once again I have matched it with my signature black and white stripe binding fabric ~ 1/8" Stripe by Timeless Treasures (available from Fabric Bubb).

46 Star Blocks.
Instead of adding borders to the top and bottom of the quilt as per
the pattern I have added an extra row of stars (additional 7 stars).

Really cute and I like your quilting process...it's always spot on...(at least it looks that way, haha!) Also, I still don't know how you manage to machine stitch that binding on so beautifully and it be perfect on the back....I've tried it but had to rip it out....I guess you have to really make sure you are consistent...? maybe I could try hand basting the ditch on the front to make sure it's in the right place on the back??? Don't know if I'm making sense...
