Red White and Blue Postage Stamp Quilt - Work in Progress

Red White and Blue Postage Stamp Quilt - tutorial available | Red Pepper Quilts 2016

Red, white, and blue! A well timed traditional color palette and quilt to coincide with 4th of July celebrations in the USA. If you are celebrating today then Happy 4th of July to you! Alas, it is just another Monday here in Australia - an overcast and cool one at that - and these colors take me back to the warmer days of Summer: bright sunshine, vibrant blue skies, open doors and windows to catch the eventual bay side breeze ...

This quilt had me dig deep into my stash of blue fabrics. Blue fabrics are well represented in my fabric stash however it seems that I generally avoid using dark blue and navy fabrics. For this quilt however I have pulled out all my favorite blues plus those dark and saturated blues for these add clarity and contrast, and shine brightly alongside the stark white solid fabric. I have made use of all fabric collections and have freely mixed fabric styles and types, including Liberty of London Tana Lawn, retro 30's, Japanese prints, stash basics, and several linen blend fabrics.

  7. Beautiful! Just beautiful! Thank you for listing the quilt stats (and for linking to your perfectly detailed tutorial for the original PS Quilt!) I'm working on a quilt using 3" strips and low volume fabric; I chose 3" to showcase the fabric more. But seeing your quilt, and how the fabric designs are still visible, I will also need to try using 2" strips! Thank you for brightening my day with your gorgeous photos!

  9. Thank you, Rita, for showing this lovely quilt today, as Americans celebrate our Independence Day. Your quilt is beautiful! Here in southern California, U.S.A. we are fortunately celebrating with very nice weather today, much cooler than July 4th usually is.

  13. I had to come back to enjoy this quilt again and I am curious. How do you cut all you thousands of squares! Do you use a rotary cutter or some cutting machine? Visiting your site is always a treat for me.
