Memoire A Paris Irish Chain Quilt - Work in Progress

This is what has been keeping me busy this last week or so: cutting squares and stitch, stitch, stitching. There was a lot of stash and scrap busting going on but I also selected some beautiful fabric that just needed to be featured.

I recently discovered the Memoire A Paris fabric collection by Lecien Fabrics at my local fabric store. This fabric is a lightweight lawn fabric and is it finely woven with a high thread count. It is very soft and has a smooth hand, similar to Liberty of London Tana Lawn. The stunning teal blue floral print immediately drew my attention and needed to be featured in my quilt.

I love Irish Chain Quilts! This traditional design can easily be modified and the layout can vary from simple to intricate. The design for this quilt is the same as the design that I have used for my previous Irish Chain Quilts for which a tutorial is available here.

Most of the 2.5" squares for this quilt were individually cut, and many squares were fussy cut so as to feature a fun element from the fabric like a face, shape, flower, animal or other character. I have also used snippets of many different Liberty of London Tana Lawn prints which not only complement the luxury look and feel of the feature fabric, but also blend well with the scrappy feel of the quilt. Scrappy but cohesive, that is the challenge.

I have already made good progress with this quilt. I have pieced the backing fabric, cut the batting to size, and have even basted it. That's my least favorite part done. Now on to the quilting which I do enjoy!
