Rectangle Checkerboard Quilt - A Finished Quilt

Rectangle Checkerboard Quilt | Red Pepper Quilts 2016

The Rectangle Checkerboard Quilt is finished! I love starting the week with a finished quilt for it means that I have spent the last few days basting, quilting, binding, and taking photos. A ritual of tasks that I am familiar and comfortable with. It also means that I am ready to say goodbye to this quilt and start on my next project. I do have a bucket list of quilts that I would like to make but the order of the quilts on the list is subject to change. I do also have a penchant for re-visiting quilt designs/patterns that I have previously enjoyed.

And so today another Checkerboard Quilt is finished. This one a slight variation on my usual Checkerboard Quilts. Rectangles instead of squares. I have quilted this quilt by ditch stitching all seam lines, both vertical and horizontal, creating a grid of lines that are fairly closely spaced to give the quilt a lovely all over texture.

For the back of the quilt I have used a single fabric featuring strawberries and flowers on a soft lime green background from the Strawberry Bisuit collection by Elea Lutz. And I couldn't resist matching it with my signature binding - a black/white stripe fabric.

I have loved working on this quilt! It is so satisfying to work from stash and even more so when I can use a fabric - the pin fabric from the Sew Stitchy collection by Aneela Hoey - that I have been saving for just the right project.

  3. This is a great quilt! I'm curious, since this quilt finished at 54 inches x 68 inches and you used one fabric for the backing, what is your preferred method of splicing the backing fabric to make it look like one big piece?

  8. The pin fabric was such a sweet choice. The quilting looks really nice on the back. Those jars on the yellow background are most interesting. Congratulations on a beautiful finish!
