An update today on the Daisy Chain Quilt project, my slow sewing project. I am happy to say that I have been able to meet my target of finishing three Daisy Chain blocks a day; some days a few more and some days none at all. But today I have 150 Daisy Chain blocks that when sewn together will make a reasonable size quilt (my rough calculations suggest approximately 72 inches x 90 inches).
So far I have LOVED working on this project. I have loved choosing the fabrics and working methodically to cut fabric, prepare the paper pieces, and then settling down to hand sew at the end of the day. Most days I have spent about an hour to complete my three Daisy Chain units, often whilst watching TV, sometimes very late in the evening when it was still too warm for sleeping. You have no idea how happy I am that today is the first day of Autumn!
The Daisy Chain Quilt ~ An English Paper Piecing Project
After working with several different types and brands of thread I have settled on the Bottom Line by Superior Threads for this project. It is a fine polyester thread (60wt) which is strong, does not twist, glides through the layers, and disappears into the fabric. This thread made my time spent hand sewing so much more enjoyable! It is also available as a set of pre-wound bobbins which is perfect for my needs in terms of yardage whilst giving me the option to color match my thread with the fabric.
The next step is to join all the Daisy Chain units together and I have decided to use a diamond shape to do so. Whilst I am looking forward to seeing how this project comes together I am quietly dreading the awkwardness that comes with working with large sections of paper filled quilt top. But I am determined and I will simply work row by row, and one stitch at a time, to finish what I have started. It will be worth it!
