Sunday Stash #205 - Downton Abbey by Andover Fabrics

Downton Abbey by Andover Fabrics
The Women's Collection

I am a huge Downton Abbey fan, and have watched all of the first three TV series more than once.  Much more than once as it loops on my Ipad whilst I cut, sew, or quilt.  From the very first episode I was enthralled by the setting; the clothing, accessories and yes, the storyline. With each repeat episode I see more of the details such the the soft furnishings, the trimmings, textiles, and accessories.  A fascinating look at a bygone era.

The first exclusive collection of licensed fabrics of Downton Abbey for Andover Fabrics is The Women's Collection with color and design palettes inspired for the women upstairs: The Dowager Countess, Mary, Edith and Sybil - the lead female characters in the tv series.  It sounds like this is the first of several collections!

Admittedly, these will be my challenge fabrics for 2014 - I LOVE them and the bundle has been eye candy on my cutting table for a week or so -  but they are well outside of my comfort zone (and I see so much purple!).

DOWNTON ABBEY - The Women's Collection is now available from:

  1. Oh go on Rita, step outside your comfort zone and embrace purple. You know you want to ;-)

  2. I want the whole line but admit I don't know about a quilt with all. Looking forward to seeing what you plan to do. Does it deserve a quilt of only these fabrics? I do not know.

  4. Seriously outside my comfort zone too ... especially as I am not yet a convert to the TV show :P
Are you back from NY yet? Hope you have had an absolute ball!!
I'm back from our trip too ... and after a VERY long time ... back to blogging. Can't quite believe it but I'm very excited about it all.
    Andi xx

  5. I'm a HUGE Downton fan too and gotta say, the fabric collection is gorgeous. I bought the first three seasons on DVD with $$ I got for Christmas last year and I think I've about worn them out, LOL. I can't wait for the 4th season to start, I think Feb, isn't it? Anyway, love the fabrics and it's great to know your a Downton fan too. Hugs....

    1. Series 4 just finished here - bit controversial in places! Looking forward to the Christmas special now, as long as they don't kill someone else off, lol!

  6. Ooops, forgot to tell you, purple is my favorite color and I made a large quilt with purple, white, yellow and green and I love the blocks, but I was fairly new to quilting and selected a border fabric that draws all of the attention away from the blocks, all 12" and not one with less than 80 pieces in it. So, the quilt hangs on my quilt rack folded so the really ugly border doesn't show. Otherwise, I love the combination of colors. Especially the purple, LOL.

  7. there seems to be a lot of fabric coming out now re Downton, we are also being shown collections named after all the ladies in the programme, the ones you are sharing look far nicer than the previous ones I have seen that sixpenny quilters are doing.

  8. That purple is what drew me to them initially - I love it! Happy quilting : )

  9. Thank you for posting this. I don't know what I will make, but just really needed some of this fabric-line and ran over to Hawthorn and snagged up a bundle. Your photos are great!

  10. You know, I don't necessarily love how they look all together (a little too traditional) but I like them individually and I like the groupings you photographed. They just needed to be paired with some of the great funky stuff you're so good at finding! Good luck. :)

Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment! I really appreciate it.
