Sunday Stash #97 ~ Vintage Feedsacks

FEED SACKS:  cloth sacks in which animal feed, flour and other staples were packaged.

Feed sacks were widely used throughout history and in particular during the 1920 - 1950's feed sacks were produced in a wide range of colorful and striking designs.  Once the feed was gone the cotton bags were recycled and used for many a sewing project including of course quilts.

The feed sack fabric is 100%  cotton and the weave is a little coarser and looser than standard quilting cotton.  This will make the fabric a little more difficult to work with but not to the extend that it will deter me  from trying out some small scale patchwork piecing.  I've got plans ... nothing to show yet.

Enjoy Sunday!
