It's great to be back on home ground. Our holiday in the States was truly amazing; we so love big cities, and New York/Chicago certainly do not disappoint.
NYC December 27, 2010 ~ More snow than we could ever have wished for.
For me the highlights were visiting Purl in Soho, The Folk Art Museum and The Museum of Modern Art. And then of course there is ice skating in Central Park on Christmas Day, confidently traveling on the Subway (we purchased a 2 week unlimited ride ticket, which was definitely the best value!), and generally emerging ourselves in the American culture (and that snow blizzard!).
We've been home for a few days now, and three weeks worth of washing has been taken care of. As if on cue, a bundle of Pat Bravo's Nature Elements fabrics arrived yesterday morning, hence the sewing machine has also had it's fair share of action. Progress pictures soon.
Whilst in New York I was sent a book by NY Publisher Sixth and Spring Books. The Art Quilt Collection: Designs & Inspiration from Around the World profiles more than 100 award winning artists along with their stunning creations.
Manhattan by Bernadette Mayr (Germany)
and
A Complete Basket Case by Kent Williams (USA)
What I really love about this book is that is that not only does it showcase stunning quilts crafted using well established methods, it also includes step by step photographs and instructions to illuminate some of the techniques with which mere scraps of fabrics become vibrant works of art.
Now the good news is that Tara from Sixth & Spring Books has also kindly offered to giveaway a copy of The Art Quilt Collection to one lucky reader.
To be in the draw all you have to do is leave a comment on this post (please ensure that an email address is available on your profile). International visitors are very welcome to enter! Only one comment per person/email address will be eligible to enter the draw.
The draw will take place at noon (EDT) on Saturday 8 January 2011,at which time comments to this post will be closed. The winners will be announced here on my blog the same day, and are also contacted by email. The book will be shipped directly to you from Sixth and Spring Books.
Good luck everyone!
Rita
