I really underestimated how long it would take to quilt this quilt! I would say without any doubt that I worked on just the quilting for 6 hours (probably longer). I used nearly 500 yards of thread!
The finished size of the quilt is 46 inches x 56 inches. It is the biggest quilt that I have quilted myself, and although I found it tough going at times, I would not hesitate in doing it again.
Here is a close-up of the quilting:
I again chose to go with straight lines vertically and horizontally from edge to edge, just a quarter of an inch from the seam line of each square block. Then I quilted a diagonal line from corner to corner of each block, in the opposite direction of the triangle. Luckily the photos above and below will help you make sense of what I have here described!
Now for the binding: - I have decided it is going to be red. That's the stage we are at here. It has been a busy week! I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Wow! How are you able to keep the lines of the quilting so straight? I'm impressed with how quick you put this whole quilt together. I would love to learn to machine quilt. Most of my quilts, I quilt by hand. It is so slow.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilting. I am also a fan of straight line quilting
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs. Red Pepper!
ReplyDeleteLove the way that your quilt turned out! Now I am seriously going to have to make a red and aqua quilt. I may even try to use some linen fabric.

Wow, the quilt looks stunning! I find straight line quilting takes me heaps longer than stippling these days. It looks fantastic though. Love the diagonal lines.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I really should do a quilt with straight line quilting soon.
ReplyDeleteThe quilting is fantastic, I love that you did both diagonal and beside the seams, it really enhances the quilt pattern.
ReplyDeleteWow, this quilt really sails away! I see it was much work, and so precisely accomplished. What a treasure.
