Use it or lose it and yes that too applies to my stash of Liberty Tana Lawn; the most luxurious fabric in my stash and one that I have carefully collated over a number of years. This year I also subscribed to the Westwood Acres Liberty Club (receiving a monthly bundle of 10 different Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics) which has been a great way to add variety in print and color to my stash ~ even colors that I would not necessarily have chosen myself, but without which this quilt would not be the same.

It has been a week of sewing pretty, and there were times that I just had to step back and admire the colors and patterns, especially when contrasted against the dark background fabric. I have used Melange Yarn Dyed in black by Lecien for my background fabric which is a 100 percent cotton fabric with a cross weave that creates a textured appearance much like traditional linen. This fabric is similar in weight and presses, cuts, sews and feels just like standard quilting cotton. The texture and weave of the background fabric is difficult to capture in a photograph and are best pictured in some of the close-up photos.

I have followed the same piecing method as per the Checkerboard Strip Piecing Tutorial to piece the blocks (although I have cut my fabric strips wider and longer).

QUICK QUILT FACTS
Chambray Yarn Dyed and Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics were cut
as strips measuring 2.5 inches x 11 inches (this will make more sense when
read in conjunction with the strip piecing tutorial).
I made 64 16-patch blocks ~  a total of 1024 patches of fabric,
and I used more than 100 different Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics.
Quilt top measures 64 inches x 64 inches.

Strip piecing and chain piecing is quick and easy; certainly less fiddly and enduring than sewing together rows of 2.5" squares. I actually really enjoy the repetitive process, even find it therapeutic, and as each step of the process was ticked off the quilt that I had envisioned came together as planned.
