A picture post of the finished Checkerboard Quilt. I have had such a wonderful time working on this quilt! What I like most about this quilt is that it is a great showcase of fabrics - from stash basics to the many novelty prints - and I know that having such a diverse range of fabrics on hand, and a willingness to use them, makes this quilt unique. It is still use it or lose it when it comes to my fabric stash!
The finished quilt measures 60 inches x 80 inches which is towards the upper end of what I am comfortable quilting on my domestic sewing machine, but having said that the quilt basted and quilted perfectly! I have ditch stitched all seam lines, thereby creating an all over 2.5 inch grid of intersecting lines, and giving the quilt a lovely soft hand without adding or taking anything away from the fabrics that are the feature of this quilt.
For the back of the quilt I have again used Newspaper in Spackle from the Story Collection by Carrie Bloomston; still a favorite backing fabric, and I hear that this print will soon be available as a 108" wide fabric. Imagine that. You've not seen the last of this fabric here.
And I have used a classic black/white stripe fabric by Timeless Treasures for binding - another fabric that I use often for binding, for it is indeed timeless and provides just the right amount of contrast for this otherwise colorful quilt. These quilt edges ... make me so very happy!
