Oakshott Scandinavia ~ Half Square Triangle Quilt

I have done a lot of work with Half Square Triangles (HST's)! This humble unit is so versatile, the possibilities for quilt designs and layouts are endless, and it is a traditional block that never gets old.

I was keen to make another HST quilt and also rather keen to cut into this beautiful bundle of Oakshott Cottons which has been sitting on my cutting table for some time waiting for inspiration to strike. This bundle of shot cottons is Oakshott Scandinavia ~ a palette of muted tones with a subtle flaxen white warp combined with eight different weft shades to produce a unique ‘shot’ effect – the Oakshott hallmark. It's such a pretty bundle! (More photos of this bundle here: Sunday Stash #274).

I couldn't think of a better way to use these soft Oakshott colors than to combine them with luxury Liberty of London Tana Lawn fabrics. I have also used a number of reclaimed fabrics from a bundle purchased at the Festival of Quilts (from Worn and Washed) back in August - including the feature dot fabrics, several check and stripe fabrics, as well as dainty floral fabrics.

Of course, I have included several fabrics from stash ... floral fabrics by Lecien, gingham, and stash basics. I can't help but mix and match fabrics, colors and prints. I do think they all work well together.

I absolutely love how this quilt top turned out. The colors are not quite my usual palette, but becoming more so, and although different in design it feels similar to my Worn and Washed Strip Quilt made in September. Although, I did enjoy piecing this one!
