All the Blues ~ A Finished Quilt

And a picture post.
All the Blues - A Finished Quilt | Red Pepper Quilts 2015

I have lots of photos to show of the finished - All the Blues - Quilt. Scroll, scroll, scroll. This quilt, with the use of many different fabrics tells a story, which I hope is conveyed in the images. There is a lot to take in. Often when I look at a quilt I see (and usually recognize) the fabric before I see the quilt design, I then have to step back and take a moment to see and take in the whole quilt. This quilt however it is all about the fabrics .... I am a fabricoholic.

I have quilted this quilt by ditch-stitching all the seam lines which works well with small patchwork squares, and whilst the quilting stitches are not readily visible the evenly spaced grid of lines do create a subtle texture that can be both seen and felt. Simple and functional quilting.

For the back of the quilt for I have again used my "go to" backing fabric which is Newsprint from the Paint collection by Carrie Bloomston ...

... and I matched it with my signature black/white stripe binding fabric.

All the Blues ~ A Quilt in Progress

All the Blues ~ A Quilt in Progress | Red Pepper Quilts 2015

A new week and a new color palette; from last week's warm color palette to this week a cool color palette. Cool, calm and restful.  Blue, grey, pink with a touch of yellow and green. Peaceful.

It has been a week of easy and reflective patchwork and stitching. More than 200 different fabrics were pulled from stash to make this quilt! This alone is a time consuming task, but I don't mind. The fabric and color play has to be my favorite part of quilt making, which is usually followed by long sewing session. And that too I enjoy!

QUILT STATS
A selection of more than 200 different quilting cottons make up this quilt.
I made 63 16-patch blocks ~  a total of 1008 patches of fabric.
(I have again followed the same piecing method as per the
to piece this quilt top
(although I have cut my fabric strips wider and longer - 11" x 2.5").
Each finished square measures 2" x 2".
Quilt top measures 56 inches x 72 inches.

There is much to see, from birds, cats, and dogs, to fruits and flowers. And animals, lots of animals. From farm animals to zoo animals. It looks like I have a thing for fabric with elephants for there are more than three different elephant designs, in multiple colorways that have been used in this quilt. And of course, text fabric!

All the Blues - A Quilt in Progress | Red Pepper Quilts 2015

New fabric, old fabric, some hard to find fabrics. All from stash. I love these scrappy projects and I love that I've pulled this quilt top together from stash. Now all I have to do is fold and return these fabrics - in an orderly manner - to stash, a much less enjoyable task. That, and basting a quilt ...

Sunday Stash #307 Retro 30's Child Smile Fall 2015

Retro 30's Child Smile Fall 2015 - Lecien | Red Pepper Quilts
Retro 30's Child Smile Fall 2015
by Lecien Fabrics

The latest Retro 30's Child Smile collection (Fall 2015) by Lecien has arrived in stores and has once again been welcomed as an addition to my fabric stash. My love for these small scale reproduction prints is seemingly never ending, for not only do these background colors blend well with my stash, the designs are super cute, playful and reminiscent of childhood.

Glorious color! The collection features just five clever (and adorable!) designs in up to to eight different colors - colors we've come to associate with quilts made in the 1930's. Designs include dots, children at play, classic cherries and berries, and a floral print which is my pick of this collection (pictured above).
