It's a Family Thing Part 5

Do you remember the hand pieced stars my MIL started working on earlier this year?

 
There were many readers who were curious as to how the stars would be joined together as well as numerous requests for a progress report. 

 
It seems she has been very busy hand stitching!

Fussy cutting with an eye for detail and perfection.

Raiding my scrap bin at regular intervals, dropping in ...

usually on the way to or from her physiotherapist who is treating her for a sore shoulder, neck and arm.

Too much hand stitching maybe?  Regardless more hexagons are in progress, just 199 more to go.

  13. Wowza...that is simply incredible. YOu two make a real dynamic quilting duo. Your MIL is sure lucky you have such good fabric taste and hence a terrifc scrap stash to raid. I'd love to see this when it's done..something tells me your MIL is a "finisher". Ann

  20. OMG that is the most amazing quilt i've seen in a while! Those mermaids! The peas and carrots perfectly aligned! I do all handwork too, so i'm not amazed by that, but it's not easy!

  59. I love your blog! In going back and reading your older posts I came across this one and was curious what the next step is. I too have been hand piecing a quilt (see pictures on my blog) since 2001. I finally am close to the right amount of tumbling blocks (i call it my qbert quilt!) however I'm at a stand still as to 'how' i'm going to put it together. I thought about hand stitching all the pieces together for the top, but what quilting would i use that wouldn't distract from the nice 'patchwork' look i'm going for? Also the binding...i 'want' to keep the uneven sides but i'm curious if there would be a down side to binding around all of those corners around the quilt? any advice would be greatly appreciated!
