My Space Today

I am spending the day finishing the quilting of my new Oranges, Lemons and Limes quilt.

Thankfully all is going to plan. Just one tip (and I am sure you are all aware of this obvious statement) - always be sure to cut the batting large enough to comfortably cover the quilt top.

This is an example of what not to do. The batting I used for this quilt was a leftover piece from a previous quilt and I really wanted to use it rather then cut into more of my larger pieces of batting. I knew it was always going to be a tight squeeze, however, this was ridiculously close, and caused much more stress than I was willing to endure.

I hope to show you some pictures of backing and binding soon.

  5. LOL I did the same thing with my batting on the last quilt I finished... I was panicking the entire way through but thankfully I squeaked past without too much trouble. Loving the colours on the quilt!!

  6. I'm sorry you were stressed, but am happy to hear it did work out. Quilt & quilting look great.

Thanks for sharing. I'll definitely be careful when I try to "force" a scrap piece of batting on a quilt.

  19. Well, I'm sure in your experienced hands it'll all turn out right. One question: have you ever tried to piece together two bits of batting? I am doing a cot quilt at the moment and have two pieces that stitched together would be enough but I'm not sure if that will be noticeable through the quilt? Material Obsession book suggests to butt them up against one another and zig zag stitch together? Whaddaya reckon oh guru?!

  21. I love how it's always recommended that the back and batting are larger than the top, but we all try and be resourceful UNTIL the top that makes you realize why they say that!!! You made it. Kudos. Karma is with you. And it rocks!

  23. Oh Rita I really love that colour combo and your quilting is gorgeous, even with the stress that batting would have caused. That is one of my pet hates cause I cut it too fine a lot!!! Can't wait to see what binding you will choose. xo

  24. Love the colours, so yummy and fresh looking..
Glad you made it with the batting, always a bit of a problem that, but nice to see no wastage..lol

I join my batting with light iron on interfacing, doesn't show and so much easier than zig zagging, no bulk at all..
