Happy New Year everyone! 🎇🎉I hope 2018 is good to you and that it brings you the things you are hoping for. Most of all I wish you peace, good health, and happiness ... and of course time to be creative. I have had a lovely Christmas break but I am itching to get right back into it. I am starting the year with my finished Retro Half Square Triangle Quilt.

This particular quilt is made following the instructions of my Retro Half Square Triangle Quilt Pattern. It is a traditional nine-patch style layout of Half Square Triangle units and each unit features a dark fabric and a light/contrast fabric. I first made this quilt in 2013 and you can see photos of the original quilt here. Choosing fabrics is my favorite part of the process, and oddly, I find the repetitive process that is required to make the many Half Square Triangle units is somehow therapeutic and comforting.

I have quilted the quilt by first ditch stitching all of the horizontal and vertical seam lines, then adding additional vertical lines of quilting, evenly spaced across the quilt. It is minimal impact quilting, allowing the fabrics to feature, but still giving the quilt texture and an additional point of interest by the way the quilting affects the drape of the quilt.

For the back of the quilt I have used my favorite text fabric Newsprint from the Story collection by Carrie Bloomston, and have matched it with my signature black/white stripe fabric for the binding. For the binding I have used a narrow black/white stripe fabric for a signature finish.
