A Flying Geese Rockpool Quilt

A Finished Quilt.

As promised in my Sunday Stash blog post from earlier this month featuring the Rockpool fabric collection, today I am pleased to show you what I turned the FQ bundle that Jodie sent me. Jodie Carleton (from Vintage RicRac) commissioned me to make a quilt with her brand new fabric line ~ Rockpool for Ella Blue Fabrics ~ for her booth at Spring Quilt Market in May this year.

The Rockpool collection features five unique designs each in five different color ways. The colors are pastel soft, the fabrics with a white background are a sparkling white, and the prints feature coastal life elements including seagulls, whales, starfish and even a few not-so-scary sharks. To highlight the prints I have added several solid fabrics (Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton) and decided that the Flying Geese block was the perfect unit to celebrate the fabric designs.

In addition, I have added numerous spiky triangle blocks to add another element of interest. These blocks were foundation paper pieced (using EQ7 - quilt design software - to draft up the block). These blocks kind of remind me of stringy plant life or seaweed found floating in the ocean and indeed rockpools.
