Winter be Gone ~ A Quilt in Progress

Work in Progress.
Green and Blue Patchwork Quilt | Red Pepper Quilts 2015

Blue and green are two of my favorite colors (I don't think I can pick one color that is a definite favorite above all others) and always a winning combination. For this project I have teamed the colors blue and green with a heavy dose of yellow, a splash of grey, a hint of pink, and black to give the eye a place to rest. These colors remind me that Spring is just around the corner ... for we are ready for longer, warmer days.

QUILT STATS
Quilt top measures 56 inches x 56 inches.
28 rows of 28 squares
784 squares each measuring 2.5" including seam allowances.
Approximately 200 different printed quilting cottons.
All from stash.

This quilt was made using my Checkerboard Quilt and Strip Piecing Tutorial. My strips were cut 2.5 inches wide and 11 inches long, and I made a total of 49 16-Patch Blocks (this will make more sense if read in conjunction with the tutorial). My blocks were made by alternating a "dark" and "light" fabric, although I did not always strictly adhere to this layout, rather allowing colors and fabrics to sit alongside one another as pleased my eye.

There are some i-spy elements - I see elephants, chickens, teddy bears, flowers, and more - as well as text fabric with varying scale of letters and numbers, often in black and white. I love to use my fabric stash in this way; a color study of many different printed fabrics, a limited color palette, with varying shades and tones of the feature colors.
