Milk and Cookies ~ Part III

And with a full day at the machine yesterday quilting like a woman possessed, and this morning again to finish the binding, the Milk and Cookies quilt is finished:

Fabrics:

For backing fabric I have chosen a fun print from the Sherbet Pips collection by Aneela Hoey; a little extravagant but definitely warranted for a quilt with such special prints.  (See a full image of the quilt back: here).

Again, I have quilted with horizontal and vertical straight lines, stitching from edge to edge along both sides of all seam lines twice.  Twice the work, but well worth the effect.

For binding fabric I have chosen a soft grey/red/white stripe (Lecien - Color Basics).  It is a subtle finish/edge for this quilt which is really all it needed.

Quilt Design:   Simple squares - it doesn't get any easier than that.  The large squares measure 5 1/2 inches and the row of small squares measure 3 1/2 inches (all measurements include seam allowances).   All fabric squares were laid out on my design floor, and re-arranged until I was happy, prior to starting the piecing.  Piecing was done by sewing the squares in the vertical (longer) rows first, and then sewing the rows together into a quilt top.

I have listed this quilt in my Etsy Store:

The listing can be found right here:  Milk and Cookies @ Etsy.

Thank you for stopping by,
Rita

  1. I love it! And I am still very intrigued by the smaller squares :D, they give this quilt a different touch. And the binding is perfect too, it keeps things calm even though some fabrics are really strong.

Oh, and I love the blue squares, the ones with large dotty circles, their colour also calms down the whole quilt.

    It's really perfect!

  7. Wow, this turned out fantastic, the blue dot fabric isn't as commanding as it seemed to be in the beginning and the Lotus Wallflower has taken dominance but not in an overbearing way. I love it, gorgeous!

  11. Beautiful quilt! It may sound like a silly question but...when you quilt horizontal and vertical lines do you alternate between the two directions or do you do all the horizontal lines and then all the vertical lines? Every time I machine quilt I wonder what order is best!

  14. I love how this turned out - just the right colors and of course I love your quilting like I usually do. I finally tried straight machine quilting on two small quilts and although I will never be a machine quilter only kind of person I did like how they turned out - I was "inspired" by you to give it a try.

  20. Nice Rita! I love that it is bright and subtle all at the same time. Nice use of the Amy Butler Lotus fabric and the Red Letter Day by Lizzy. And, I kinda love those hand screen printed fabrics!
