Non~Quilty Crafting

Not only do I love collecting fabric and making quilts but I also enjoy a spot of knitting and yarn stashing. Unfortunately I don't allow myself a lot of time to sit and knit.  Somehow knitting seems to make me feel so unproductive ~ a luxury ~ whereas when I am sitting behind my sewing machine (mind you this is a favorite place to be) I feel like I am accomplishing something.

I like to think I can dabble in lace knitting, however nothing that requires my full concentration for too long although a little chart reading is ok.  All that garter stitch was the perfect pattern.  I started this project early April and spent quite some time with it over the Easter break.

This shawl is Taygete ~ pronounced Tay-EE-jet-ay by Rosemary (Romi) Hill.  You can find the pattern details here:  Ravelry

YARNS:
Koigu (KPM) 3010 Gray
Spud and Chloe Fine in Anemone 7805

See the picot edge bind off?  It took hours to complete binding off the shawl in this way.  It was worth it though; after blocking the shawl the picot edge might just be my favorite part of the shawl.

Bring on Winter!

Wishing all mothers a Happy Mother's Day,
Rita

  25. Love everything about it! I use to knit everyday, until I began to sew. There is in instant gratification that comes with sewing that you just don't get from knitting -- so I get it.

  26. This piece is absolutely beautiful! I do needlepoint as my diversion from quilting and would be happy to swap you a piece of my needlepoint for a shawl (I'm serious). Great work!

  27. Happy Mother's Day from Canada. I too dabble - both in quilts and knitting. I am not as prolific a finisher as you. I may have to knit this shawl - it is beautiful.

  32. wonderful! I knit while watching a tv show, so I end up multitasking & feeling productive, otherwise I have the problem too of feeling like so much time is slipping away if I'm not getting a lot done.

  33. wow i think you accomplished an amazing edge to the shawl! I find it very difficult to find time to knit, but did manage to finish a cardie for my daughter last year! Now need to finish another one i have on the go!

  34. when I saw first photo I thought you did the lace only and the rest was some kind of a fabric and then.... realized the whole shawl is knitted. It great, so delicate. And the colors are awesome as well.
