Birds of a Feather ...

... flock together; and so my Flying Geese are in unison, heading in the one direction only.

I have heeded the general consensus in the comments of my prior post (showing work in progress of this quilt) and have omitted the idea of adding sashing in between some of the vertical rows.  This change in plan did mean having to add another row of flying geese to keep the quilt dimensions in proportion.  Choosing the colors for these two rows of Half Square Triangles (left hand side of quilt top - below) caused quite some indecisiveness.

I like to think my flock of Flying Geese are heading North ~ it is how I'd visualized the quilt top after the final layout was decided upon. A change in orientation of the quilt top doesn't significantly alter the  overall effect or greatly change the impact of the colors and the layout.

Backing, quilting and binding yet to come.
Rita

  2. Awesome. Sure they should fly north. I'm in Canada, tell the Geese they can come to my house!!

  3. I love how this is turning out. It looks great without sashing, and I'm glad the rainbow doesn't start or end on either edge. My favorite thing is using the unlikely gray crosshatch print as your neutral. It works brilliantly!

  15. You've been busy today. I really like this quilt you are working on; the"gray" fabric really sets off those triangles. (Yes, I know it's not gray, but it just reads that way.) Bravo!

I've been working too--I'm on to the next Lollypop Tree block.

  16. This is really beautiful, but oddly enough I see the gray 'geese' when I look at it, so they are headed in the opposite direction. Isn't it funny how we can look at the same top and see it differently?

  17. I think you made a wise choice without sashing- I like how everything plays well together. And flying north vs. flying south? It's amazing how the eye plays tricks on the brain.
I'm excited to see the final product.

  20. I actually see geese flying north in both pictures. In one, they are colorful; in the other, they are gray. Very interesting.

    And very lovely.

I, too, see the "gray" geese going one way and the colour going the other way.

  28. It looks great! My eyes are funny, once you've turned the quilt around, I see the grey/blue geese and not the coloured ones anymore. So for me, they are still going north.

I actually see the geese in the black and white too. I live in one of the largest wild goose stopover areas in the country, so my brain is wired to see them in B&W, I think. :)
