A Colorstory - Nature's Elements

It's a great to come back from a holiday as well as starting a  new year feeling fresh and inspired.  I don't have any specific quilt designs planned; I will just let that happen as things progress. Too much planning can be so overwhelming.

Pat Bravo has very kind sent me a bundle of fabrics which greeted me upon my arrival home.  The fabrics are a mix of Pat's Nature, Floral and Oval Elements in a range of colors and shades.

As you can see rotary cutter has had a workout and the dust cover has been removed from the sewing machine. I so loved the graduation of the colors in the fabric bundle that I have featured this aspect in the quilt top that I've made.

This is a really simple project to help ease me back into the swing of things. The squares each measure 3 inches  (including seam allowances) and the horizontal sashing which separates the rows was cut as a single strip measuring 2 inches wide.  I have of course enjoyed some strip piecing by cutting 3 inch strips from the length of each of the fat quarters and matching it with a strip of white fabric, then cross cutting the strip sets at 3 inch intervals.

Whilst you are here, be also sure to enter the The Art Quilt Collection Book ~ Giveaway posted earlier this week.  Entries close on Saturday 8 January 2011.  You can find the Giveaway Post here.

Thank you for stopping by,
Rita

  3. Kaffe Fasset would be proud! I received his Simple Shapes book for Christmas and was delighted to recognise your inspiration for several of your quilts. I remembered you'd said you were drawing inspiration from one of his books but couldn't remember which one.

  17. Very striking - love it! Any possibility of a post about cutting fabric? Even with a rotary cutter, cutting board and quilting ruler, I still have trouble with straight lines!

  18. Wonderful! Just a stunning way to start the new year. Wish I could swisch up a quilt top in no time like you (how do you do that?) but for me the process of five minutes here and there makes it taking ages... However. I finished my first BIG quilt just before X-mas and am now working on a new one. Thank you for sharing and for always writing tech facts. Very informative.
