New York, New York!

We have safely arrived in NYC, touching down just as light snow was falling on the tarmac.  Incredibly beautiful, although it hasn't taken us all that long to work out that there is another definition in NY for being cold.  Really cold ~ like minus 5 degrees celcius!

We have already seen many wonderful sights, have taken many photos with an emphasis on color and have shopped to fill our suitcases and more.  Today however I would like to share with you my trip to Purl in Soho.

 There was fabric galore:

Etsuko Furuya Echino Oilcloth and Indian Embroidered fabrics

Beautiful Liberty of London
A Rainbow of Solids
Embroidery Linens in a range of colors

With map and metro ticket in hand, PurlSoho is really very easy to find.  Their new location is fabulous and has considerably increased their floor/wall space allowing for the most amazing displays of color.  Fortunately I was permitted to take lots of photos!

and the most enormous and colorful display of yarn:

threads and tape:

I really appreciate the effort the store owners/employees  have made to carefully display their merchandise thereby providing inspiration and ideas.

If you're ever in NYC it is well worth the effort it to take a ride on the subway and venture to Soho (which by the way is a really friendly neighborhood) and spend some time browsing at Purl.  It is great color therapy and you are sure to walk away with some stash enhancement.

Happy Holidays,

Rita

  3. I'm so jealous.... here you are all the way from Australia and are in NYC visiting PurlSoho.

I live in the states and i'm only about 10-13 hours away and would not even think about going unless we went on vacation...although I have been to NYC when i was 15, but i wasn't thinking about sewing then!

Well, enjoy NYC and don't forget to go to FAO Swartz toy store and Central Park...Have Fun!!

I live vicariously through you today.
    Melbourne is rainy and cold!
I'd rather be in crisp white snow with delicious colours to ogle.

  16. Hey I didn't know you were in NYC! When I was at Purl in September I carried that roll of the taupe with orange indian embroidered fabric around the shop with me and then cut it at the last minute (well, admittedly I did just buy a couple of metres of Liberty cord - drrooool - so something had to go!). Of course seeing it here in your picture makes me wish I hadn't left it there. Stay warm and have a great time!

  17. Stop torturing us, poor folks stuck in cleaning the house for family coming over for Christmas break and other cooking duties, (who would probably never make it to New York one day anyway!!)
Have fun, and take pictures, for our greatest pleasure, as always!
    Thanks.

  35. As a New Yorker who follows your blog religiously it is so cool to see your experiences in New York. I just got back from a trip to Australia and thought it was so beautiful there... I need to remember all of the goodies I have here at home! By the way... this weather has been very mild! If you think this is cold, stay away in February! :)
