HST Overload

I have certainly had my daily dose of sewing and Half Square Triangles this week.  This project was totally addictive and I have sat and sewn obsessively and compulsively until the quilt top was complete, way late into the evening (or perhaps I should say the early hours of the morning).
.

Made almost exclusively from my fabric scrap bin and and an attitude of "anything goes" each block is comprised of four Half Square Triangles.  I tried to not over think the block colors and fabric combinations, although I did loosely focus on light/dark prints for each block.

For those of you who enjoy the numbers:

The quilt top measures 51 inches x 69 inches
is made up of 72 blocks each pieced from 4 Half Square Triangles
blocks measure 6 1/2 inches
a total of 288 Half Square Triangle blocks
plus
24 setting triangles (top, bottom and both sides)

Quilt inspired by:  Bemused

Piecing this quilt top this week was a mammoth task which I have thoroughly enjoyed!  However, as I finally look up and around me, I have come to the conclusion that working with my scrap bin causes huge amounts of mess; threads, teeny tiny scraps and dust bunnies galore.  It's time to down the rotary cutter and start some serious housekeeping.

Thank you for visiting!

  6. I started a doll quilt for a swap yesterday based on your pictures. Each finished half square triangle is only 1.25 inches. I have never made such tiny triangles! Thanks for the inspiration. I'll send you a link to a picture of the finished project when I am done.

  8. Gorgeous. I guess if you have great taste in fabric overall, then a scrap-bin quilt like this one will be just as fabulous as something planned and purchased for.

  14. This is great! I think I'm going to start making these squares from scraps as I work on other projects. I think I'd go nutty from doing all of them at once! (I'm far too impatient for that!) But, I really like how this turned out. Yup.... going to start cutting squares, making triangles, and setting them aside!

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  17. I absolutely adore this quilt, and it is one of those quilts that I love even more every time I look at it. I don't know how to explain it, but there is something so cheerful, friendly, and comforting about this quilt. Beautiful but homey, with a nice modern traditional feel to it.

  25. Wow, it's great! Few solids, that's unusual for you! So the question remains: how much of a dent did you put in the scrap bin? :)

  26. Just an absolute beautiful finish!! I find the same thing working with the scrap bin. I am currently working on a bordered diamonds quilt (posted today) and the scrap bin has been in use constantly. I am finding the same things that you are finding when you are done for the day. A mess.
