Inspiration

Inspiration for my quilts come from far and wide.  I love scouring books, magazines, Etsy, blogs and Flickr for inspiration.  Just recently I happened to be at the right place at the right time, when Victoria from The Silly BooDilly updated her Etsy Store.

I could not resist this gorgeous pincushion pieced with iridescent shot cottons, featuring both machine and hand quilting.  I absolutely love Victoria's unique style of patchwork and quilting inspired by Japanese Boro Textiles.

This pincushion sits alongside my sewing machine, has been admired from every angle, and has inspired me to pull out a selection of my Kaffe Shot Cottons:

And the woven checks and stripes:

Be sure to check out The Silly BooDilly blog and Etsy Store - oh I see there are some pincushions there now!  Hurry ...!  You won't be disappointed.

More on my new project soon.

  1. I have gone to both her blog and etsy store and you are right--VERY inspiring. I have a stack of shot cottons. Have often thought about adding the stripes as well. I got to sit in a little demonstrate by Kaffe Fassett at quilt market a couple of years ago. So inspiring. Love the pincushion!

  3. Gorgeous! I love Silly BooDilly's work quilts and these pin cushions are divine. I was too slow to buy one this time, but I'll keep my eye out for the next lot. Love shot cottons in quilts, can't wait to see what you make with yours.

  11. The pincushions are gone :-( I also stalk Victoria's blog. Her work is the best.

I have a little stack of shot cotton which I just can not decide what to make. It is a beautiful little pile.

  12. You are so clever to buy a pincushion from Victoria! I will have to keep watching as I would love to have one, too. Her work is fantastic, and I would love to study it up close!
