Snippets from my Design Wall

It's the season for all things red, and so is my next quilt project.
Just a glimpse to show you what I am working on this week, amongst way too many other things. This is on my design wall/floor, nothing set in concrete yet, just playing around.

The red bird print featured in the above image is by Kristen Doran, called Mollybirds.  It has been in  my stash for some time and I am finally ready to cut into it. Hand screen printed on a natural linen/cotton basecloth in Australia, and very  suitable for use in a quilt.

What are you hoping to finish before Christmas?

  3. I keep forgetting how cool it is to concentrate on one main color!

I hope to get my sister's quilt done and if I'm lucky the ones I have pinbasted for my kids but if I don't finish their quilts I'll just wrap them anyway!:)

  5. What fun reds those are!

I have two baby quilts that I have begun, but need help with the binding. I am bringing them home with me at Christmas, so my mother can help! I also have a few pillows started, but those I can handle myself :)

  8. Love, love, love those birdies. It's looking great. I love the stage of shuffling and moving things around and then it just clicks doesn't it?

  15. I've been gathering fabrics for something similar, except instead of all reds mine is going to be reds purples and fuschia-y pinks. I can't wait to start it... I've been working on finishing a commissioned baby quilt first though.

Good thing is, I finished up the binding on that last night, so watch out stack of Kona solids... you're getting the chopping block this weekend!

  16. I very much enjoy your free wheeling approach to colour. Many fabrics I've never seen before. Linen/cotton blends; interesting. Me, I'm finishing the backing on Naptime Quilter's quilt along and then ....all those joyful ufo's, none in red though. I may have to start a new project! lol

  17. I have a gift I still have to quilt and bind to get in the mail ASAP! I hope to make some cheery winter pillowcases for us, too.

I have a stash of red fabrics I have been gathering. Can't wait to see what you come up with to inspire me to use mine! I have been reading your blog for several months now and am inspired each time you post. Thank you!

  19. I try not to set myself up for too much disappointment, so I didn't set TOO many goals of things that needed to be finished by Dec. 25th. A mini quilt and a few sets of tea towels are all that're left on the list for the big day. However, I do have a half-pieced coins quilt that needs to be done for January 2--it's a wedding present!

  20. I'm hoping to finish all my Christmas presents! The list includes 2 hand quilted quilts, numerous knitted hats and scarves, lots of scented patchwork hearts, homemade chocolate truffles.....eeeek, I'm so far behind!!!

  21. 'Before Christmas' is sounding all a bit ominous. What I am going to do is make a NY resolution in the shape of something to do before NEXT Christmas. I hereby declare that I will be embracing the making of the quilt next year. After being inspired by all your 'gorgeous' for much of the year, I think 2010 could be time to properly dive on in!

  22. I'm so glad you posted where you got that bird fabric because I was just about to ask...LOVE IT:) you have so many beautiful fabric choices and I get inspiration from your combinations!!

  23. Also, I meant to ask, how much of these fabrics do you purchase? Like the birds for example, they are pretty pricey so I was wondering how you decided how much??

  24. Hi Carissa - I tend to buy half yards of fabrics, sometimes more if I think it would be great for a backing fabric. The bird fabric by Kristen Doran? - I only have a fat quarter.

    Thanks
    Rita

  25. Can wait to see the final product.

This christmas I am "trying" to finish three different quilts for my three girls....yeah right! I'm new to quilting so I didn't expect a lot of things and they won't be quilted but the tops should be done.

  26. Ooo, I like that!

Yes, there is too much to be done! But I'm not stressing...yet! :)
