Spring Quilt

Spring has sprung in Melbourne, daylight savings has started, and we are enjoying some warmer weather.  To reflect the change in season, and the extra spring in our step, I was keen to work with some green and yellow fabrics.

Finished quilt measures 30.5 inches x 30.5 inches

This baby quilt was made late last week and over the weekend the finishing touches were added.  The fabrics from yesterday's Sunday Stash were my point of reference for selecting fabrics from stash, and have been completely used up.  The  individual blocks that make up this quilt are pieced from 2 inch strips, with four strips pieced together to make a finished size block of 6 inches square.

The back of the quilt is pieced using  fabrics that are also used in the quilt top and an orange floral fabric from the Peas and Carrots range by Urban Chiks for Moda.  I have quilted this baby quilt with vertical straight lines.

My initial choice for the binding fabric was a really safe green and yellow stripe, but at the last minute I decided to go with something a little different.  The blue binding fabric is also by Urban Chiks this time from their 1974 range for Moda.  It adds so much more interest to the quilt, highlighting the flecks of blue throughout the fabrics that have been used to make the quilt top, and framing the quilt.

This quilt has now been added to my Etsy Store.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

  21. That is a beautiful quilt and I also love the one you entered for the quilt festival. I love Kaffe Fassett. Thought your quilt looked familiar but it is like the one in his book. It is so beautiful.
