I am again participating in the Blogger's Quilt Festival 2009 which is hosted by Amy from Park City Girl.
Bearing in mind it is Quilter's Choice, my entry for the Festival is a quilt that I truly love love love! It is also the most used quilt in the house, and I sleep under it every night, regardless of the season.
Quilt measures 90 inches x 90 inches
This quilt design is by Kaffe Fassett from his book Caravan of Quilts. I made this quilt in 2006, and purchased the fabrics as a complete kit from Glorious Color. At that stage of my quilting journey I needed all the guidance available to select fabrics and copied the layout without alteration. The colors of this quilt are understated, but the overall effect of the simple design and use of fabric is indeed a quilt much like a beaded curtain.
My quilting skills have evolved and I have learned to take calculated risks since then. Today I am unlikely to purchase a pre-packed kit. I am so much more confident when it comes to choosing fabrics, but would greatly encourage anyone to go ahead and make use of these bundles if choosing fabric is the reason why you are not sewing or enjoying the quilting process.
Back of the Beaded Curtain Quilt - pieced with some of the leftover 4 patch squares.
I am a huge Kaffe Fassett fan, have all of his books, have attended his Melbourne lecture on color, but have not as yet participated in one of his workshops. His eye for color and design has certainly given me much to think about, and I am constantly inspired by all of his work. I have tried to put into practice Kaffe's color theory and I look at the world and color in a whole different way today. I hope his influence it is starting to reflect in my own quilts whilst being true to my own style.
