I have been blessed with some very talented crafty people in my family, and today I thought I would show you some of their work that I really love.
I have mentioned before that my mother has always been an active creator, if she is not sewing, you will find her knitting, crocheting, painting (include walls here!), throwing pots on her pottery wheel, and quilting. One of her great loves has always been counted cross-stitch and she has created some absolute masterpiece embroideries.
These are just two of the pieces that I truly love and my mother has given these to my daughter to treasure. These beautiful images are created with the most vivid colored DMC thread and the cross stitches are all perfect.
My mother-in-law is an accomplished seamstress, was taught to sew professionally and has made many a frock and wedding dress. She has since embraced patchwork, needle turn applique and quilting with a passion.
This is definitely one of my favorite quilts that she has made. The blue/green color tones combined with the solid white borders just make this quilt so fresh and modern.
She has a great eye for color and I wish you could really see the binding on this quilt; the binding strips were cut on the bias, every hand stitch and corner is perfect. Beautifully made!
As you can see the apple has not fallen far from the tree, and I am every so grateful that I am surrounded by like-minded creative minds. I am thankful too that both my mother and MIL have taken to reading my blog on the internet, although my MIL recently complained that she could not read all of my post as she had "run out of mouse pad"!
