A Spot of Envy

When I read this post by Tallgrass Prairie Studio a few weeks ago and saw the fabrics Jacquie had added to her stash, I just knew they would also fit in well with my stash.

These fabrics arrived today from the US. They were ordered and sent on 13 May from the Fabric Shack, arrived at my front door (Melbourne, Australia) just 1 week later, what fantastic service!

The first fabric on the left is for the binding on this quilt. The others fabrics? Well no plans for them yet! It is not like I don't have any spotty/dotty fabrics in my stash already but I was right, they do fit in well with my stash! These fabrics are from Moda's Hello Betty range.

When ordering fabric from overseas you have to justify postage by filling the shipping envelope :)

This fabric is by Alexander Henry and is called Spotted Owl in blue. It's very cute! Where do you buy your fabrics?

  1. Love the fabric! I never need an excuse to fill a package, especially if it is with such wonderful fabric finds. You did very well!

  2. Fabric Shack for me, too! But they are only about 6 hours away, so I get the package in 2 days. Nearly instant gratification! Speaking of which....I had been eyeing those spots from Jacquie as well, perhaps I shall fill my cart :)

  4. Love those spots! I just got my first order from Fabric.com. Not only was there a 20% off sale on their already pretty good prices, plus pretty speedy shipping, but they were quite generous in some of the cuts they sent. I was getting all half yards, some are closer to 3/4, and one looks to be (I'm sure a mistake) a full two yards. Crazy!

  6. I still need to grab some of those owls! I just received an order from Contemporary Cloth. This is the second time I've ordered from them - international - and I'm very pleased. No extra taxes or duty to cross the border. Nice of them!

  10. well, I love looking at the colours and patterns in person, so I mostly shop at local stores as well as taking pass-along fabrics and scraps from my mother, who buys a lot. Yours is great. and I would do the same thing and get the most yardage for my shipping fees!

  16. I not only order from Fabric Shack but I go in person...dangerous. It's only 1 1/2 hours from my house. :o) Very lucky me. You should see the store in person! I love Hello Betty. I've already done 3 projects with it.

  17. I stock up on fabric twice a year when I get to work the special sales at Miller's Dry Goods in Charm, Ohio. They just had their anniversary sale on May 1 and 2 - all fabric, notions and patterns were 30% off. We had people there from Canada and all over the mid-east states. Such a good time! I will buy on-line once in a while if there is something particular I am looking for. I also hand dye Kona white for my art quilts.

  18. Hi
I buy almost all my fabric online. From Etsy sellers e.g. afabricoutlet, fabricworm. And from UK based store Cottonpatch. The upside is that it's much cheaper, the downside is you have to wait... patience is not my best quality

  23. Those owls are adorable, and the red you used for binding is awesome.

I still buy most of my fabrics from brick and mortar shops. I just need to see the fabrics before I buy. On the other hand, I am starting to branch out for some Kona solids because I can't get them locally. So pretty!
